A Hill to Die Upon
The gospel of modern black metal has fallen upon deaf ears in the Middle West. The constant barrage of sonic masturbation has been disregarded as pedantic puppetry. A Hill to Die Upon has refused the banner of the hypocritical avant-garde in order to sow a new standard. Drawing on the philosophical treatises of ancient Greece, lyricist and drummer R. Michael Cook and his brother Adam have fashioned a new philosophy for their art. Carrying little for creating something new or unique, the brothers instead focus their energies on creating art that is honest and well honed, using art itself as the defining theme of lyrics and inspiration for the music. After three albums, A Hill to Die Upon is simply making art about art. The brothers are delving deep into a meta-artistic milieu which will be the furnace for the forging of their fourth work.
“All of these ignoble qualities in literature arise from one cause— from the passion for novel ideas which is the dominant craze among the writers of today...” - Longinus, On the Sublime
Along with releasing 3 full length albums, A Hill to Die Upon has toured all throughout the United States as well as played several shows and festivals in Mexico, England, Norway, Denmark, and Switzerland. AHTDU has shared the stage with such bands as Exhumed, Abigail Williams, Goatwhore, The Black Dahlia Murder, Abysmal Dawn, Ringworm, Black Anvil, Living Sacrifice and many more.
Astral Blood is a North American black metal band located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band features Andrew Rasmussen, Joe Waller, Nick Stanger, Brandon Petree, and Ben Fagerness. If you are a fan of Symphonic / Atmospheric Black Metal you will dig our sound. In Dec of 2014 we released our Self titled debut EP through Tridroid Records. We also put out 2 music videos not long after. Currently writing/recording the next record.
Discarnate is a 5-piece death metal band from Illinois. Inspired by the punishing sounds of early 90's extreme metal and the new wave of modern death metal, the new band has already made a mark in the scene. In a little over a year since the bands inception, they released an EP critiqued by Lars Bremnes Ese of Metal Hammer Norway as "evocative and massive." "The Derangement" was released in May 2016 to an already eager base of fans.
Featuring guitarists Luke Nissen and Ivan Cordova, bassist Alletta Ergun, and drummer Dave Cieck, the solid and mature instrumentation that makes the core of the band is a fully collaborative effort. Trading riffs and ideas is what they do, always striving for a new take on a genre that is nearly 45 years old. This, combined with the mind-crushing lyrics and vocal delivery of the bands' frontman, Matthew Maggio, makes for an exciting and evolving sound.
Currently, the band is seeking to expand it's reach in the United States, hoping to bring its music to a wider audience through touring and a vibrant social media presence. In the meantime, there is always work to be done. Along with reaching out for tours, they are writing a new EP, a full length, which they hope to release by years' end 2017.
